In Module 01 you selected your topic and created a thesis; review your instructor’s feedback to ensure your thesis statement is focused on an area that relates to one component of the criminal justice system and ensure that complex ideas are expressed in declarative sentences. The next step is to develop an outline of your project paper from the beginning to end.
Continue researching your topic and remember, these research sources are the lifeblood of your analysis about the critical issue. In a detailed outline, address the following:
- The working-title of your paper
- An introduction opening your paper leading into your thesis statement
- A thesis statement that clearly expresses your argument
- A historical context and a general overview of your chosen issue as it relates to the element of the criminal justice system. Include research to support the information.
- Historical information
- How has this issue changed over time? What is the current status of your particular issue?
- General overview
- Historical information
- What laws, rules or interventions relate to your issue? For example, is there a law or rule that dictates law enforcement response? Is there a rule of criminal procedure that the court must follow? Is there a mandated intervention or process that the courts facilitate?
- Identify challenges surrounding your issue
- Based on topic, several (at least 3) strong reasons or validations of challenges. These need to be supported with research.
- Why is this topic an issue?
- What could be changed to overcome the issue?
- Conclusion
- Include a paragraph concluding your paper, reasserting your thesis statement, and summarizing your issue and the challenges.
- References
- Include an APA formatted reference page containing a minimum of four (4) sources. Three (3) of these references must be from high quality, scholarly sources.
