Topic selection for your project is due this week. You can pick anytopic from this course including but not limited to the followingtopics:

• Domestic Violence
• The War on Drugs
• Legalization of Marijuana
• Gun Control
• Terrorism

Start researching your topic and in 1-3 sentences, summarize what youwant to include in your final project. In your summary, share 3-4subtopics that will be discussed in your paper. Be sure to craft anorganized summary to reflect the main idea of the paper and to explainfully the material that will be covered.

In your thesis statement, be sure to assert the main idea in aspecific, clear, and complete sentence that is complex, innovative, andoriginal. Overall, the thesis statement needs to indicate the main ideaof the paper and identify the position you’ll be taking regarding thetopic.

• Example: Domestic violence affects the victim and the children involved by impacting them in social, psychological, and economic ways.

Throughout your summary and thesis statement, be sure to expresscomplex ideas in clear and complete sentences that summarize the mainpoints. Also, in your summary, be sure to identify the subtopics thatyou will be describing. In the example below, the subtopics areidentified clearly by using numerals to highlight them.

• Example: I chose to write my paper on domesticviolence as it is an issue that happens every day in the United States.Domestic violence can be verbal, physical, or even sexual in nature. Thesubtopics will include (1) that domestic violence affects the victimand the family in many ways. Also, (2) many times the victim does notwant to press charges either because he or she is afraid, or the abuseris the breadwinner of the family. Lastly, (3) many times the abuser getsa slap on the wrist when it comes to punishment as the courts can beinconsistent with sentences.

The topic selection and explanation are important parts of your paperbecause, in this exercise, you are laying the foundation upon whichyour paper will be built. Carefully consider your topic and reach out toyour instructor if you have any questions or need any guidance.
